PAA

Starring:Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Vidya Balan

Can you ever imagine watching an Amitabh Bachchan film and not watching Amitabh Bachchan in it? Seems impossible, isn’t it? The towering persona and the rich baritone just cannot be overlooked. But R. Balki transforms the legendary actor into Auro and replaces the rich baritone with the voice of an adolescent [who’s neither grown up, nor a kid] and yet taps the hitherto untapped talent of the icon.

AVATAR

Starring:Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang

A science fiction film, Avatar tells the story of Pandora, a planet that is several light years away from Earth. And this is where Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) has to “go”, if he wants his planet to survive. Jake is an ex-marine. He is paralyzed, but his spirit is in tact. He gets recruited to go on a mission to Pandora, take the form of a Na’vi (native of Pandora) and save the Earth. The film has fantastic special effects.

MY NAME IS KHAN

Starring: Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol

My Name is Khan is set post 9/11 and focuses on the discrimination Rizwan Khan faces as a Muslim. Rizwan Khan (Shah Rukh Khan) suffers from Asperger’s Syndrome, a type of autism. He falls in love with a Hindu woman Mandira (Kajol) who is also a single mother living in San Francisco. The terror attacks and how it affects their relationship and life is the theme of the movie.

ROCKET SINGH – SALESMAN OF THE YEAR

Starring: Ranbir Kapoor, Shazahn Padamsee, Sharon Prabhakar

Some films absorb you instantly, from the very outset. But it takes time to get into the world of a salesman who thinks from his heart. Frankly, the film is more of a documentary on the life of a salesman. It’s a decent film, no two opinions on that, but the question is, (a) Is the story powerful enough to excite you and (b) Does it grab your attention in entirety? Sadly, the answer to both the questions is in the negative. Film

THE TWILIGHT SAGA– NEW MOON

Starring:Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, Robert Pattinson, Billy Bruke, Ashley Greene

The second instalment of the Twilight series, titled New Moon, has not just vampires to offer, but also what seemed an imminent possibility in the first film: werewolves! Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Edward (Robert Pattinson) are going great guns, when something happens that wrenches them apart. She is almost drowning in despair when Jacob (Taylor Lautner), her now-mysterious childhood friend comes to the rescue. But Jacob is not who he seems. What is he hiding? Are Bella and Edward over?

DE DANA DAN

Starring:Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Sunil Shetty, Paresh Rawal, Neha Dhupia, Sameera Reddy

Be forewarned. De Dana Dan is the most bizarre film from the maharaja of laughathons, Priyadarshan. Not even in your wildest dream you’d think that Priyadarshan would place almost an entire film in a hotel and have its entire cast, comprising of 26 [or is it 27?] characters, most of them weirdos, interacting with each other. But Priyadarshan needs to be credited for pulling it off.
